In this capacity, James is the Secretary General’s primary advisor on maintaining NATO’s innovative edge, and on all issues relating to technological challenges, cyber defense and hybrid threats and their far-reaching implications for Alliance security.

Selected participants include forward-thinking CIOs, innovation leaders, and technology pioneers who will exchange knowledge while gaining valuable perspectives on technological and security challenges through NATO's global lens.

As the Secretary General's primary advisor on maintaining NATO's innovative edge, Mr. Appathurai provides counsel on all issues relating to technological challenges, cyber defense, hybrid threats, and their far-reaching implications for Alliance security. He is currently preparing decisions to rapidly accelerate member countries' acquisition of innovative technologies. Prior to his current role, he served as NATO's spokesperson globally and led NATO's Russia negotiations.
