Galloping water stress – The sustainability dark horse
Under current trends, demand for water will exceed supply by 40 per cent in 2030. 2.2 bn people lack sufficient access to fresh water. 35% of transported water never reach its destination due to leakages. 70% of freshwater consumption is used for agriculture. By 2050, around half of the world’s population will live in areas that are water-scarce at least one month per year. Already today, USD 301 billion of business value is at risk unless companies improve and innovate around water use.
This session, hosted by Aliaxis Next, is dedicated to the water challenge – the sustainability dark horse. We will discuss a set of questions that are equally applicable to individual organisations, as they are to the macro perspective:
- What is the cost of water for your organisation and what drives this cost? Is the real price of water uniform?
- What are the risks to your organisation and supply chain in case of water scarcity?
- How are you addressing (or how can you address) your organisation’s water risks? Feel free to discuss and draw parallels to different industries!
